After years of hard work, a mother and daughter graduated from the same university. In 2014, they left Syria as war raged around them and went on to build a new life in the United States. NBC News’ Kate Snow shares the story.

Why are they wearing doctoral hoods?
They came to America as refugees, given free housing, free medical, free education, free food, etc. Too bad the average low-income American citizen or homeless Vet isn't given the same preference.
Veterans are doing cool stuff too. Like Korey Schaffer from Til’ Valhalla Project. Using the money he earns and turning it into plagues for the families of fallen service members or first responders. You know so members of their families can remember them, be with them, and just hold them.
This is not impressive but, again like normal Veterans lives don’t matter. Right?
Congratulations!!! ❤❤❤
Most amazingly she looks exactly like the people she went on to live with. She is blond. Can you imagine that coming out of middle East? If no one pointed that out on a road nobody could tell her apart from an ordinary American.
Hope they can afford all the loans.
Wow!
It is never too late to achieve your dream. No matter how difficult it is keep moving on.
Congratulations
Yeah Go Class of 2023 🎉
Bachelor of Arts in English and Political Science? Make sure you tip her well when she waits on you folks.

Immigrating to the country that largely participated to the destruction of their homeland… Let's laugh about it😂
Syrian are one of the most hardworking and intelligent people there is on the planet. Congratulations to them!
And soon they will start cursing the country that adopted them
In 2011 the Obama administration leaned on the government of Iraq to release detained Al-Qaeda members into the growing Syrian conflict. Their attempts to keep them contained and focused failed as most took their brand new American supplied equipment and their legacy fundraising connections from the gulf and joined a new upstart group called ISIS. We didnt know until these CIA funded terrorists began slaughtering the Pentagon funded terrorists and the Chiefs of Staff followed the paper trail.
Lol she left her husband. Doesn't matter where they are they are trash.
I'm all for welcoming refugees to the country, we should help people stuck in desperate and dangerous situations. But I'm wondering how they were able to afford two degrees from a university that costs 15,000 a year for tuition for just one person. That's 120k altogether for two 4 year degrees. How about we help American students go to university first? I agree with the daughter saying she is proof of what people can accomplish if given the opportunity…let's provide that opportunity to more American students too.
EDIT: this is not meant to be a slight on this remarkable young lady! Proud of what she has accomplished through her own hard work and determination!
👍🏽
That's a really major accomplishment even for someone that was born here… To move across the world, leave your father behind, leave your home, leave everything you've ever known and come to a new country that always has so many crazy social issues in the news must have been difficult… Then putting all that aside and working through college and helping your mother too…wow, that's good stuff.. we're glad you're here and I'm positive you'll do good wherever you settle.. hopefully they don't give your family any issues with citizenship.. Enjoy your new home.. we love y'all
As long no extremist n can assimilate
We never will as long as the military industrial complex and religious radicals persist
Wish we could live in peace
