Former Lieutenant DeWayne Smith was the on-scene supervisor the night Tyre Nichols was beaten to death. Smith announced his retirement one day after he received notice he was being charged by the department for violating policies. WMC reports.

It should be troubling for all taxpayers to know that their tax dollars are paying for police who do not respect life or constitutional rights. It will be interesting to see how it goes when taxpayers have had enough.
Great! So he's been beating and killing people for 30 years. Cops are the most disgusting creatures on this earth.
See? Even they get away with killing their own people and get to retire and have his pension.
His pension should go to Tyre Nichols his family π’
he is retiring so he can collect his full pension before he is fired. ..lock him up
He retired because his pension is exempt from any potential garnishment. He can be sued by the family but it won't affect him in the long run.
Tax payer money! π€¬
Did not have bodycam on that night? How convenient.
THEIR was a supervisor on seen. This is s 1st I've heard a supervisor was on scene. "Cover up by the Chief." The entire executive Staff should be terminated.
Maybe he retired, but it doesn't mean he can't be charged with a crime like everyone else.
God said we must tell the truth. Walnut Creek CA. is a systemically racist city. From the racist Contra Costa County fire department to the racist Walnut Creek police department these are two large well funded hate groups.
Racism is a sin. They must repent believe in God and be saved.
God is Love.
Why don't people pay more attention to this??
His kicks by his poster pictures by the fireplace…?
He want to keep his retirement βοΈ He realized it was time to move onπ€
why not. politicians and bankers who ruin lives get to keep their money
…what just one little murder is gonna cost him his pension…. awe come on man.
This just adds insult to injury to that young man's family. How dare that one man make a statement about how he had 25 years of faithful service before he completely violated not only policy, but also human decency. That's like saying that someone was an upstanding, law abiding citizen before they murdered someone in cold blood so let them off the hook. I don't think so.
A civil suit against him would take away his retirement and more. How about that?
0:35 Award-winning reporting. Love the accuracy in the quote π
This comes as no surprise, it seems to be customary when in trouble the officer moves on to a neighboring District or state.
Welcome to AMERICA
lmaooo that nikka retired πππππ
Retire in jail no problem
Still haul him into court.
How convenient. Lt Smith needs to be held accountable along with the other officers.
He can retire, but that doesn't dismiss his part in it.
mang
When the reporter cited smiths statement I couldn't help but laugh.
HOW CAN ANYONE NOT KNOW THE TRUTH AFTER SEEING WHAT THEY DID TO THIS MAN!!! BOOO TO THE BLUE!!!
