Balloons have been used for centuries to spy and gather intelligence. The Japanese were using them to drop fire bombs on the US during WW2. The US was trying to prefect using batbombs on the Japanese during WW2. Those were small fire bombs strapped to bats. The program was a failure and cancelled. But the Japanese balloons did deliver payloads of bombs. The threat was kept hidden from the American public inorder to deny the Japanese intelligence on how well the balloons were working.
Save SS? Nice framing as they put it. Let's review some facts:
If they do nothing SS is not going away. Starting around 2033-35 SS will still be able to payout 75% of all benefits. That's with doing absolutely zip.
The shortfall is being caused by the babyboomer generation far out numbering GenX. As the boomers depart the shortfall will become less with each departure.
If we want to fix SS so there will be no shortfall at all it would require a simple extra 1% payroll tax increase. And that could be backed out as the boomers depart.
