With all the monies spent on defense annually, this balloon should never happen. The fact that China used a White balloon either shows how brazen or necessary to implement the technologies onboard. I've been in a lot of earthquakes. Nothing stronger than a 6.4 but a lot. People in general, including Hollywood, imagine and even depict what they would do in an earthquake, but without that experience you really have no idea.
Most earthquakes, by far, you're mostly worried about your stuff falling over, breaking, stuff falling on other stuff, especially fragile stuff, so my precious Fender Stratocaster for example, it's on a stand which I bought deliberately because there's no way that's going to fall down or the guitar is going jump off the stand as it bounces around.
You never imagine the building could collapse, even a little, and even if it does, it's not like a fire where you have time to escape. Worst earthquake, you're going to basically 'duck and cover' under a table or something. Even after you see something like what happened in Turkey and Syria, it's not so much doubting that could ever happen to you as basically trusting you live in a society which will do its best to bring everything back to normal, and better prepare for the next time.
These days, that's world society. When 9/11 happened, people around the world said that day we were all Americans. Well let's say today that we are all Turks and Syrians, and let's do our best to help our friends and neighbors there, drop all animosity, politics, economics, and hostilities.
