If the GOP had a conscience at all they would loudly, clearly and without hedging denounce the act in a way that's unifying, not divisive. Leave politics TF out of it when you make the statement and don't fan the flames further. Then they should make a unified statement asking their own party to dial back the rhetoric. Capitol Police threat unit is pretty good but very small. Out of thousands of violent threats they can only investigate the very worst and prosecute only a few of those.

I don’t see how you hold the major social media platforms responsible for this. They created the means of communicating but if someone goes on there to communicate crazy things and I shouldn’t say someone I mean millions of people perhaps billions of people going out to communicate crazy things can you reasonably expect them to police that. We just heard you say you can’t expect capital police to really offer 24/7 protection for all the members of Congress can you expect social media platforms to police every post that goes up on their platform? I know we wish they could but realistically that’s not even possible. Even if we had technology that was two or three generations ahead of where we are now that still wouldn’t be possible. Understood what you have to do is temp down the rhetoric you can’t have politicians using this rhetoric yet they are. Look at what governor Glenn Youngkin said after this attack. First he condemned the attack it sounded great and then after that he said we’re going to still get rid of Nancy Pelosi we’re going to get her out of here. He took an attack that you should’ve just condemned and left it at that and he still had to make it political. Look at how other Republicans haven’t said anything. Right now every Republican should be condemning this whether you’re in office or out of office right now every last one of them should be saying oh no we are not down with this yet that’s not what’s happening. In fact Republicans should’ve been condemning this type of speech before attacks like this occurred yet that’s not what happened. They should’ve been policing their own social media followers saying to them don’t say this don’t say that this is not how we operate. Yet the politicians let the followers get out of control in fact they sometimes supported them. Look at what happened with January 6 there was condemnation that night in a week and a month in a year we now see Republicans supporting what happened that very same day. That’s where the problem is it’s that politicians people running for office people formally in office haven’t condemned what normally would’ve been shunned decades ago activity in words that would’ve been shunned decades ago they embrace so people are more bold now we’re seeing people go from speaking in a violent manner to behaving in a violent manner. don’t expect social media to stop people from behaving violently do you think Facebook is going to show up and stop someone from kicking in the door of a member of Congress oh that’s foolish to expect instead you should I ask the people who are being followed on Facebook to condemn this type of behavior and rhetoric.
