I think people need to remember, your view of Elon is probably through the filter of Mainstream media. He’s not as bad as people think. Not perfect by any means. But, keep in mind the sources your getting your news through before you judge.

Advertisers don't want their ads running above, below, or between racist posts. So Elon letting the offenders back to reoffend. Hasn't made advertisers want to run ads. Hence his attempt at revenue generating through subscription. This move proves it hasn't worked. He wants to sell. But needs a return on value. Linda's job will be to right that ship. While Elon gets to wash his hands of any changes that will undoubtedly come to make Advertisers come back.
