Geoffrey Holt, an 82 year-old mobile park caretaker who did not own a TV or car, left $3.8 million to the town of Hinsdale, N.H., following his death. Holt’s friends say he lived a “frugal” life and invested his money that amassed the fortune.

Don't wear your bleeding heart on the sleeve, it'll get dirty and infected… You needn't leave your earthy wealth to the government. I love stories like this because it's about somebody who didn't spend more than they needed to and did more than their part in helping others. This is a success story.
Hopefully they put it to good use and not waste it.
Just think if billionaires had this kind of heart for their fellow man.
Maybe they should rename the town after their benefactor.
It took a lifetime to earn it, government will burn through it in a few months.
Ultimate note here is whatever work you doing doesn't matter you can achieve ….and so sophisticated or advance things not required to lead a life or to make it

So the town must of swiped him of his assets because he died without family I would assume. And I'll bet none of the non local government affiliated citizens saw a dime.

This is a sad story of a man who didn’t learn how to spend his money. From his father he learned to fear losing money so he just saved it and someone else will spend it now. There’s a lesson here

This is an extremely poor town and I hope that there are honest board members making conscious decisions. To benefit ALL of the towns people and in his legacy that he left as a blessing for the people. Just goes to show you you can’t judge the outward appearance of poverty. What a beautiful heart.

That was a bad idea. Should have left it for food banks or something. The town is gonna waste that money for sure
Setting it up in an interest-earning trust and only using some of the interest every year on community improvement and historical preservation projects (and letting the rest of the interest grow the principal balance) would be the smartest way to manage the funds. I hope the town is doing something like that.
Wealth is generally very quiet. Wealthy people understand this..
oh yeah sure it sounds nice "leaving it to the town" but lets be honest, that town is still part of the government, and the government could care less about you. Should of left it to a reputable charity

Good man. That’s a real man right there. Had more wealth than most people could ever dream of, Ava never once fell to temptation. Lesser men would’ve indulged, and become slaves to their vices, but he wasn’t an ordinary man. He was satisfied with the simple things in life and lived modestly. RIP
