New Jersey has become the first state to enact a law that standardizes media literacy lessons in order to teach students to discern fact from fiction in news circulating online. NBC’s Dasha Burns reports.

While it is laudable that New Jersey has enacted this kind of legislation regarding media literacy, it is not true that they are the first state to do so. Delaware, where I live, had passed similar legislation earlier, and I believe California and some other states had done so also. NJ just seems to have done a better job of trumpeting the accomplishment and getting the attention of the media about it. The irony is that a story about an effort to help students identify fake news is, itself, fake news.
How about let parents teach their kids this stuff? Focus on math, science etc. Ya know… the type of subjects that naturally teach children to think objectively and problem solve?
This is another attempt to put the genie back in the bottle. This information they would like to stop challenges the narrative that the democrat party and the mainstream media wants to peddle.
They want to spot use misinformation just don’t listen to MSNBC. Don’t listen to NBC don’t listen to CNN. Don’t listen to Disney which is the company that runs them
Great idea. What be nice to hear HOW they are doing it. If it was that simple, we would all do it.
Adults need this training
Manipulation next level … You need to check before my lies seduce you in this censored internet world 😉 Neo, wake up 😀 And follow my white rabbit 🙂
we need those for udults to
"It's safe and effective and it also prevents transmission." <<<<< Gotta love that misinformation that the "News" has peddled for past 2 years.
Child: Dad, why do I have to go to school?
Father: You need to go to school so you can be molded into a state-approved, homogenous drone that cannot think outside of the prescribed consensus. You will learn to repeat information instead of how to think for yourself so that you don't become a threat to the status quo – because they don't tolerate independent thought. When you graduate you will get a job, pay your government extortion fees, in the form of taxes, in order to perpetuate the corporate system of indentured servitude for your political and corporate overlords.
Get your children out of these government indoctrination camps!
This New Jersey class should be implemented in EVERY STATE asap before the next POTUS election
This is good hope very school have one because the US and world are being Misinform fake article calt groups that provides fake information ( flat earth society) deep fake video
Yeah…we got taught how to do this in my 6th grade class in 1994. Why is this just catching on?
I had this sort of training but In university. Glad they’re starting this earlier
I’m sorry but the next gen of kids are a failure society is doomed
More like brainwashing the kids
They have ALWAYS taught this in school! It’s essential for writing papers.
News misinformation is news Democrats don't like or makes them look bad.
A GENUINE MIRACLE!
NBC reporting on how to spot fake news .. lol lol lol
Ok class, step one…look for the Fox logo
This class is basically a free period.

Spam, commercialism, americanism, imperialism, protestantism, catholicism, everything you search for shows 1m-500k in the search results. Virus, Bots, Trojans, Spam, just old versions of the same surveillance stuff. Everything has turned into a greed, like anything else about yous. Having your freedoms, not ever allowed.
Maybe, if critical thinking were still taught and encouraged, there wouldn’t be such a need.
Also, if the principals of true journalism were still applied and followed (as opposed to principals of today’s ‘media outlets’), when news and events were simply reported void of emotion and opinion, there’d be less ‘misinformation’.
Finally, if we simply taught that an opinion does not make something a fact nor does it make it misinformation, and to be able to decipher one from the other, we’d be much better off. However, for any of these things to be a reality would require common sense which it seems is lacking in the world today!
WHO is checking the fact checkers?
"consider the source" GOOD LUCK WITH THAT.
PROPAGANDA is destroying us.
A person convinced against their will is of the same opinion still.
GOOD FAITH is required if our country is to survive.

That's why they're shutting down TikTok
I get my news from voices in my head, FACT CHECK THAT!!!
learning other languages and comparing news from it, is another tool to combat misinformation, not many bad actors understand many languages
Throwing up signs on a newscast. . . that's one way to get noticed.
There would be no need for this if parents questioned their kids on where they heard such nonsense.
All American kids need to be taught not to trust any news media either, liberal or Fox.
Majority if Not All Government Agency are the Biggest Creators of Misinformation!
Good. Let's start with NBC and its daily dose of leftist propaganda.
Just be weary and second guess anything that the white troll race posts online.
