New video shows the desperation at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill as students climbed out of windows following the alert about an active shooter. NBC News’ Julia Ainsley has more details on the suspect who is in custody and the associate professor that was killed.

It is hard to imagine how a country without a gun control act can confirm the right of its people to live freely. It is ridiculous for America to accuse other countries of the world of human rights without guaranteeing the basic human rights of its own citizens.

Horrible. Grad students are often subjected to unbearable stress. But seeking the death penalty can never be an appropriate response.
I was on campus in Phillips Hall when it all happened, and it was a truly terrifying experience because we had no idea what was going on. We were told to shelter in place until we had the all clear. There was no reason for those students to be climbing out of the window like that because they were only putting themselves at risk. If I were to guess, I’d say that they were only trying to get out of staying in the classroom for 3 hours and sheltering in place. This is yet another example of how media can be misinterpreted.
Good thing this guy committed murder and mayhem in Chapel Hill/Orange County. Despite the weapon being missing, with no motive determined, the DA/government in that county already decided “no death penalty.” No leverage in locating a firearm, not knowing anything about the background of the killer – par for the course in the same town who defunded, degraded, and demoralized its own law enforcement officers not long ago. 👌🏼 Playing politics is their lifeblood ✅✅

I think a lot of the panic that spread like lightning around the campus and city was spurred by the Jacksonville dollar general shootings 48 hours before. That panic has already sunk deep into our psyches by continuous none stop shootings everywhere. Shootings not out of regular criminal activities like robberies, holdups, car jackings etc but shootings that come out of just plain raging anger. They don't want your purse, wallet, possessions etc they want your life. Many don't even have criminal backgrounds. Just plain evil with guns readily available (open carry permission) to relieve whatever grudge gnaws at them at any particular moment.

Post-undergraduate students from China have high chance of hating their academic advisor. The student-teacher relationship in China was a bit chaos. Student is like a cheap labor for the professor. SOME teachers holds their graduation for very long on purpose to keep the workforce. This is more common than you think in China (not every professor, but still high). I doubt they brought the same culture to the US.
