Regrettably New York has in my opinion most definitely gone down hill in recent years. I speak as a visitor and a tourist to the city. Last time I was there in December of last year, i found the city to be very dirty, there was a sense of danger, the subway in particular felt very intimidating and dangerous, the streets stank of marijuana which has now been legalised, a huge amount of intimidating and threatening down and outs, an inordinate amount of immigrants absolutely everywhere and the whole place has become extremely expensive not helped by the poor exchange rate plus the tipping culture they have out there were it is an expectation to leave minimum of 20-30% tip on top of already inflated prices, not at the discretion of the paying customer but almost demanded! NYC is heading back to where it was in the 80s sadly. I shan’t be returning in a hurry.
