Why would an airline offer $10,000 to anyone willing to give up their seat on an overbooked flight? If average airfare is only $437 then the airline is paying $10,000 for a person to give up their seat to someone paying only $437. Unless there is a rich executive who wants to get his family on that airplane for their vacation and is willing to pay $100,000 a seat. THEN the airline would offer passengers $10,000 to give up their seat because the airline makes a profit of $90,000 on each seat.
