  1. Don’t violate my data like this. This is wrong & bet he’d hate this happened. You can’t expect a vet to want to live a long life after being payed like crap, & the subjected to low wage jobs & being dehumanized by the very people they serve. This idea is beyond violating RIP brother! This is not a digital autopsy it’s privacy invasion!

  4. Identifying "at risk" veterans won't be a game changer until the Veteran's Administration has a way to treat suicidal veterans. In my experience, there was nothing the VA could do for me when I showed up at their emergency room suicidal. They took my clothes, gave me a wisp of a gown, and forced me to sit in a freezing, empty room, surrounded by emergency room chaos and noise, while one of the staff "watched" me to make sure I didn't hang myself with my shoelaces – while I was there.

Then, they sent in a bean counter to tell me the reasons why I'm not eligible for VA medical care. So they gave me back my clothes and sent me on my way, feeling just as suicidal, and feeling betrayed by my country as well. At least I had my belt and shoe laces back, so I could fix the problem my own way when I was ready. 😡

I am a suicidal US Navy veteran, and I'm the son of another Navy veteran – one who killed himself in my presence. What difference does it make if you can identify a suicidal veteran in time to save them, but you don't have a method or a budget to save them?
