This will SAVE. Money. Think big. Those of us who paid off loans were not looking at tuition costs that were in six figures. And even if we were, don’t we want life BETTER for those come after?Also, we lag so behind in the sciences because it is so expensive to go into those fields. In other countries where college is paid for in taxes, there are scientists of color everywhere and women! Just watch a BBC documentary compared to a NOVA set in the US. Finally— college educated people are often in a higher tax bracket, do not have to use government supports or systems, and have marriages and families that stand a better chance of staying intact— all aspects of living that mean less in aggregate for taxpayer money and assistance. And there are so many more examples. Maybe make EXxon pay what they owe for that spill a few decades ago and other corporate fines. Frankly college should be free. It is a public investment in the future. If we are not careful there will be no one there to operate when we need them.
