Guns don't kill people. Likewise, it's not phones that make students become socially-deficit. It's people that become addicts. It's sad that these students couldn't exercise moderation and had to give up their phones.

You know, I've found I actually prefer to be entertained by my phone than forced to interact with people who I really don't care about. You've gotta be your own boss. Use it when you want and no more. People who are complaining about "people always being on phones" rarley have anything interesting to say. Whatever entertainment I find on my phone, is better to me than whatever boring small talk I make with a rando in line.

I think this is the wrong approach. They should be teaching decision making and self-control. There are phones such as the minimalist phone which literally don't have any social media apps but you can still text call and set alarms. Depriving the kids of the phones will unfortunately make them unable to be equipped with the tools to navigate reality and society. Balance and self-control is what should be taught by giving them the ability to use it as a tool rather than in escape. Most of my friends are international I need some form of communication cross-continental. I think this is a slippery slope that could have been approached way better
