Capitalism says if it's cheaper to deal with accidents than run a safe railroad then you should run an unsafe railroad, because you get more money that way. Questions should be asked why there are regulations (or lack thereof) in place that incentivize this behavior. This reminds me of how some automakers pay settlements rather than issue a recall because the settlements are cheaper. Companies need to be incentivized to operate sustainably. If the route to profit is in tandem with ethics and ''doing the right thing'' than companies would do the right thing. It is possible to have both profits AND public health.
