Voters in Ohio voted against Issue 1, a measure that attempted to increase the majority required to change the state’s constitution.

Ohio voters rejected a ballot measure in Tuesday’s highly charged special election that would have made it more difficult to change the state’s constitution, taking away a simple majority rule.

The controversial proposal was projected to fail, according to Decision Desk HQ, an election results reporting agency providing results and race calls for the USA TODAY Network Ohio. The vote is a blow to Ohio Republicans who wanted to hamstring a November ballot question on abortion rights.

The no vote was leading 59% to 41% with about half of the vote counted, according to unofficial results.

  1. The handwriting is on the wall.

  2. Whatever your stance on abortion, there is no question that the overturning of Roe v. Wade has been a disaster for the GOP. And the fact that the GOP 2024 presidential nominee is going to have to back some sort of national abortion ban will go along way to ensuring that the party will not take the White House in 2024.

  3. Voted against: Makes a reasonable fact based point
Voted for: Makes a comment based on her feelings and has trouble with basic math. 50+51 doesn’t equal 100
