The parents of a Michigan high school student who died by suicide after being blackmailed online are speaking out, pushing for online safety. “In the most tragic of situations, Jordan’s life is saving lives,” said Jordan Buta’s mother.

Does media companies have firewalls security against international criminal activities coming into the U.S.? Will media companies be required to? It seems like the U.S is everyone target especially money related scams.
I’m glad Nigerian authorities cooperated with the United States. I didn’t think that was going to happen. I suspect there’s plenty of good people in Nigeria, who are sick and tired of their country being represented this way. Dating sites are full of these dirtbags that try to pull stunts like this.

First rule, don't send sexually explicit photos to people you meet online. Second rule, don't send sexually explicit photos to anyone.
I feel for the parents but the kid was old enough to know better.
With the increasing sophistication of Photoshop and AI technologies, this is going to become an even larger problem. Victims won't have to pose naked for the blackmail pictures. Criminals will be able to create them from regular photos.
When will people realize that the human duck blind is not a platform that is safe.

As a mom, I can't imagine how much agony he must have been in, and how much agony you all must have now. That is a sick thing to do to someone. I'm impressed the FBI was able to track them down.
