As news of the shooting at a Uvalde, Texas, elementary school spread in the community, concerned parents arrived on scene looking for answers and are now raising questions about how police responded. NBC News law enforcement analyst Cedric Alexander explains whether police responded to the shooting efficiently based on the information released so far and what other police departments around the country can learn from this incident.

I would like to see a calculation of gun lobby money and number of children who die from guns. That would give us the gun lobby's determined PRICE OF A CHILD, when they buy politicians. Let's just call it what it is.

I don't understand why the police did not go into the school. Who made the report to cops on 911? They certainly didn't report the right thing. Why was the entire police dept there outside the school? And some are running with their weapons and where are they running to? And others are strolling around or one is leaning on his car. This makes no sense. There's was only one shooter there in that school! Did these cops think there was more than one perp? The entire police department against one perp? And there all standing outside?
Guns, police, parents and teachers were not the cause of the Uvalde school shooting. The cause was the nation's inadequate lunatic/terrorist control policies.
A Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) unit at the scene of the Uvalde, Texas, elementary school shooting was told not to enter the school and instead wait, according to a report from NBC News. We need a national police training standard. NOW!
If a cop is too cowardly to go save a group of children being massacred they certainly should not be cops.
For the first 7 officers there in 4 minutes, it is a clear evidence of chickenism — he shot back. I could be maimed or die. Waiting is best. What about the windows to the class rooms. Windows? No waiting is best. What about the kids/teachers? No .. No waiting is best. Clear case of chickenism.
This is just a complete failure in the willingness to try and save these children. Being afraid for their own safety, hopefully haunts them for life. Such a difference in mind set compared to the soldier who jumps on a grenade to save his comrades. Very sad display of stand by and do nothing.

I find it odd that the Uvalde Police Chief, the Uvalde CISD Police Chief, and the Uvalde County Sheriff have been almost invisible in this investigation and certainly unable to run their own news conference. Maybe they're just completely incompetent or way over the head; I'm sure they don't get paid very much in a small city in a rural county. Bad info was given to Governor Abbott about what had happened, then the Governor used that for his press conference on Wednesday. Then Texas DPS stepped in the sort things out in the ongoing investigation. Thursday, a two star Texas DPS Asst Chief was on scene releasing the disturbing information about the delays in rescuing kids that obviously embarrassed the Governor. Friday, the Texas DPS Chief (the Colonel which is the highest rank at DPS) Steve McCraw was there going into much more detail, probably sent by the Governor to clear the water. McCraw was obviously extremely nervous. There's still more to this story. I think none of this poor incident response is the fault of Texas DPS, but they stepped into the middle of it, now they own it.
Either way the cops are to blame, I thought Texas is not liberal so def they are in full support of the police, in the event that some evil sheriff told them to stand down then duty would have had the police to act and then ask questions later
The parents are the real heros, the police will be disgraced for the rest of their lives.

This sad misstep is the best reason to pass useful, effective gun laws to keep guns out of the hands of people that should never own them! Police and school staff are only human and therefore subject to making mistakes– like not entering the school right away or failing to keep a door locked. If we take measures to prevent this from happening in the first place, then we remove the possibility for human error in these terrible situations.
