Don’t understand completely the necessity of this trip. I follow Peter Niehan who predicts China’s collapse before the end of the decade. Demographics and foreign dependence on food and energy, as well as the isolated cult of personality Xi has established, much like Putin, which stunts China’s international flexibility. Covid only accelerated these problems and does the real power brokers in the American government see the same thing? Provoking tensions and possible war with Taiwan will also accelerate China’s isolation much like Russia in Ukraine. I’m not saying any master plan like this is wise or will work but it’s one exact explanation for our foreign policy exploits. In addition, much like Finland and Sweden, a military move by China will cement the Asian coalition against them and will also flip non-committals like India to join that coalition. Just a theory. Could backfire and be completely off base but explains unnecessary provocation.
