This kid IF he did this, obviously has 2 things wrong.
1 When you have access to sensitive information, you do not tell anyone. I don't care if it's an individual's annual performance report or military training exercises or a Seal Team's Top Secret black ops plans. You do not divulge any information for any reason.
2. What was his motive: He probably did it for clout, to make himself "The big man", this kind of action for this reason, is understandable but in most instances when people do this they may well reveal another person's secret/s nothing earth shattering but usually a betrayal of trust for social clout.
Having been in the military and I only had a Secret Clearance. Most people in the AF have a Secret Clearance. They are privy to really sensitive information.
Usually about the only thing they can accidentally or tell on purpose is about their own orders or possibly about upcoming training exercises, which are usually public knowledge, in order for unfriendly militaries and their master's don't get spooked and try to attack.
Sometimes an individual is frequently sent to point X, Y and other places in conjunction with their technical speciality for many reasons, an individual like this who publicity discusses this information in public places or to civilians such as friends, like this kid did, do it to Garner attention or are just plain careless.
The problem this kid faces in the civilian world, is that even if he's not prosecuted and only given a slap on the wrist, he's still going to find being hired by the civilian sector, pretty difficult due to the fact that IT people are all ways going to have access to sensitive company information, that top management probably doesn't want known by the competition.

abusing your security clearance so you can share classified information to your buddies on Discord is not whistleblowing let's be real. The only way to fix this in the future is to make the penalty ridiculously high. This guy needs to be in jail for the rest of his life, if not executed
