Stalking should be illegal
The police can't protect you. Restraining orders can't protect you. The only thing that can protect you is you. If you're in a crazy situation like this you'd better have a gun and train with it.

This is why RESTRAINING ORDERS are NO GOOD if there is not any other form of protection for the victim. If anything, it makes the stalker/abuser even angrier and more likely to retaliate. Been there, done that and I almost bled to death because a piece of paper wasn’t enough to protect me.

If there is a restraining order and the person doesn't stop, they should put an ankle tracker on them and give the person(s) being stalked access to tracker info and/or arrest the person.

It's a failed system and a tragic event. The kind of behaviour required to get the restraining order should have also lead to an ankle monitor/tracking system at the very least. He shouldn't have been allowed to drive into Washington without anyone knowing.
When I told police about my stalker ex bf they told me to stop teasing him and they won’t do anything until I’m dead!
Why would you leave all of your safety to the police? That couple had well enough warning that something like this could happen. They definitely should've been well armed and trained to shoot properly. If you have a dedicated following you have to take security measures beyond police reports and protection orders.

This is reminiscent of Larry Sturholm and Debra Sweiger being murdered in 1989, in Seattle. Sturholm was a popular TV journalist known for doing humourous pieces. Within days after doing his last item and retiring from TV, the two were murdered by Sweiger's ex-boyfriend. The murderer died in prison a year ago, 33 years into a life sentence.
