The children
There is a park in a very clean part of Los Angeles County called Reseda Park. Since the 60s, the play area had two sets of parallel bars, two sets of chin up bars and a very tall gymnastics rings. 20 years ago they took them down because children were finally hurting themselves. What is wrong with the current generation that can't go out and play without hurting themselves or picking up a lighter. My God people, we did it all and no one ever got hurt. You may call it careless or an accident, we call it stupid.
The mother should be charged! She should’ve ever left the lighter out!
When I was 5 and my little brother was 1 we were in a separate room while the adults were in the kitchen and I got a hold of some matches. I ended up setting my little brothers hair on fire and til this day I see him screaming while his head was on fire. Luckily my mother and aunt put the fire out in time and he survived. I am now 45 and he is 41 and let me tell you kids are so fast that you cannot believe it. They can get into any and everything at the drop of a dime!

When I was a little kid in the early 2000s we played with Power Rangers and Pokemon and Digimon and Hot Wheels and Matchbox race cars. We didn't play with any matches or cigarettes.

How is it not neglect to leave kids of this age home with a lighter accessible? You'd get charged for leaving little kids home alone with a gun but I guess lighters, knives, poison, etc. are A-OK! It was obviously a mistake, but other people get charged for their mistakes
The officer is wrong about the discretion of not charging a parent with negligence.
