Police Department Live Streaming Body Camera Footage

NBC News’ Tom Winter visits the Birmingham Police Department in Alabama to see how officers are now streaming their body cameras live back to their crime center. Those in favor of the technology say it gives police a chance to better assess situations in real-time, while critics allege it may be a slippery slope to monitoring citizens.

  1. That is my brother's son we are so proud of him

  2. unfortunately those cameras are necessary.

  3. I noticed nobody mentioned the fact that if you live stream like that it can also be a window for more serious criminals. Like, for actively seeking police out. You can't tell me that's a good thing. Same Idea like when it's about someone stalking. 1st it was predators using location which most people happily provided when smart phones boomed because we thought it was cool. Now police are going to live stream and I think that's going to have some other serious backfire. The world isn't the way we want it to be it's the way we know it can be. And its not nice. I think this needs to be re-thought. You wouldn't want some high level mobster type guys to be able to see where your boys are at. 1 by 1, you follow? Not some low level store thieves, real bosses. Don't tell me "this aint the movies". I'm aware, and you think this whole scenario is flat out impossible or silly. Ohkay….. Because hits have never been ordered before. nah…

  4. Wait a second, this isn't being streamed live to Facebook or Twitter. It's probably encrypted and sent to police headquarters hard drives instead of just downloading the memory cards later. Because I can't imagine that police departments would be OK with body cam footage being instantly available to the public, since most departments withhold body camera footage because of ongoing investigations. Not to mention broadcasting brutal and gruesome footage directly to the public domain. Their making it sound like it's live, but it's not. The real problem here is media or civilians tapping into their live stream.

  5. Pre remote control…robocop.

  6. Minority report 😮this is old school 2056

  7. Case thrown out Freedom

  8. Cut and edit film. Cut and edit tickets from base. Do tricks behind the back then plant drugs off the side also guns. 360 CAM HANDS IN SIGHT. You have nothing on our peoples till you solve these problems. Entrapment

  9. They will stream their cameras, but ENCRYPT their digital radio SMDH…………🤣🤔😑😞😞

  10. They need cameras in their bungholes. Can't be too safe these days.

  11. Showing all black kids getting murdered on body cam, but can't show a white man getting a love tap from a " hammer"

  12. Why not Amazon is allowed to do it to the delivery drivers

  13. *anyone over the age of thirty "why do I run so weird now" you expect for people to watch, and listen, to press and hold unto a red button on their screens, because you are g and r. you could pay someone to do that, and yes it would be helpful to go through that as well.

  14. Constant streaming yes public broadcast no. Because a wrongful arrest can lead to other problems for innocent people!

  15. Cameras should never be off from the time their shift starts.

  16. Jesus Christ called people everywhere to repent, so if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe with all your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved and inherit the kingdom of heaven and eternal life. To this, people would accept Jesus Christ in life in their hearts and told other people how good he is, how he saves, heals and frees and gives eternal life for free 2

  17. This is such b.s. if the officer does something negligent or wrong the police are still going to withhold the footage from the public and family for as long as they chose. Moreover, it's still at the police officer's discretion to choose to stream the footage. This option is not about transparency, it's about giving the illusion of transparency to distract from real comprehensive law enforcement reform.

  18. The public wants to stand behind police, but you must give us somewhere to stand while we do it

  19. They need to make them motion activated so officers can’t forget/intentionally turn them on ❤

  20. probably don't lean on livestreaming too much.
As driving around relying on Cell Phone towers or Wifi or whatever they're using can cause massive Drop-Outs and Garbled Images.

  21. There should never be an interview that is not recorded. Never.

  22. I have always believed that those cameras should never be off, and they should not have control. Video and audio, all the time. Interviews should also be recorded.

  23. All for this. Keeps accountability on both sides, and prevents more nonsense protests about this guy and that guy when it's all hearsay. Giving up privacy for transparency any day. If you didn't do anything wrong, then you have nothing to worry about. The camera never lies.

  24. During slavery times any rebellious slave that ran away or who was out of line was beaten and stripped + written in the newspaper. They talk about him being too intelligent +speaking out against the status quo + bragged about his beatings.
    @JeremyClarkson
    is this any different?

  25. Officers have also had issues with these cams because of privacy concerns. Like when they need to use a bathroom. That's why the cam is activated by each officer and is not always "on".

  26. If it holds officer accountable I’m all for. Especially in the south
