After a 16-year-old died after a fight at an Oklahoma school, police are investigating why they weren’t notified. NBC’s Rehema Ellis reports Owasso Public Schools released a statement saying that the parents or guardians of students involved in an altercation are notified of an option to file a police report.

The student that died threw water on the 3 girls that attacked them. Their own texts to a family member says they did it because they had been bullied in the past. Not sure why that is being withheld from this video. Along with the student describing their own injuries as "scrapes and bruises" in those same texts
Wouldn't be surprised if the perps were apart of the 'minority* and this is why no information is being shared
Before I became an engineer I enjoyed teaching math and coaching in the 90's. After retiring as an engineer, I decided to do some substitute teaching at the same school. I was horrified.
I was attacked by a female student for picking up her phone per school policy. Since she attacked me in the hall there was a video of the attack. The principal did nothing, so I complained to the principal. He then had me fired. As a coach in the 90's I broke up fights, but when I started substitute teaching I was told no teacher was to break up fights, because we were not trained to break up fights. I am guessing the teacher is in trouble for breaking up the fight in the bathroom.
Parents don't understand the system. The superintendent works for the school board so his objectives are to stay within the law and make the school board happy.
The principal's objective is to have parents of troubled students not complain to the superintendent. So they do very little to discipline those students. So the teacher receives very little support from the principal, when they try to discipline those students. So those students do whatever they want. I feel sorry for the normal students to have to put up with violent students.
Until the parents of normal students ask the school board to make all students held accountable for their actions this will happen again.
Three girls attacked NEX and the school did nothing!!!! The bullying had been ongoing and led to this child’s DEATH and the SCHOOL DID NOTHING !!!

This wasnt a "fight", it was a bunch of white girls ganging up and beating on a straight A non-binary student, and when that student didn't get the medical attention they need, they died, this was murder, all those girls should be charged with murder. And the school should be held accountable for not getting them the medical attention they needed, resulting in their death.

Question 1: are the schools required to file a police report if parents choose not to? Question 2: does the school need to file a police report if parents choose to do so? The school’s statements sound like it’s not a requirement. I’m assuming the parents opted to not file a report (at least initially ). Is that correct?
We can't expect our children to not use violence to solve conflict when they see adults use violence and the threat of violence against each other every day.
