There is no such thing as disinflation in reality. The price of butter (the one with 4 sticks inside a pack), which I bought at $1.40/pack at Walmart in late 2020 and now $6/pack will never come back to the old price. Instead, the price will keep going up.

Formally, both the PPI and CPI decreased in December. This is the definition of deflation. Disinflation means that the rate of growth in December 2022 was lower than in December 2021, i.e. larger growth was replaced by lower growth in the yearly inflation calculation. This effect was observed since July 2022.
