Presidents of universities grilled on efforts to counter antisemitism on campus

Top officials from several elite universities testified before the House Education Committee to answer criticism that they’re not doing enough to counter antisemitism, with UPenn President Liz Magill saying the need for “both safety and free expression…can be difficult to balance.”

The House Education Committee is led by GOP Rep. Virginia Foxx, who has called demonstrations at some of the universities “morally reprehensible” and said she will “demand accountability for this kind of hateful and violent rhetoric.”

  1. If I'm anti-semitic, you're anti-human.

  2. stop saying its anti-semitism to be against the genocide against palestinians.

  3. Hey lady. “Death to the Jew” is not a freedom of expression. Cut the crap.

  4. Without action, these are just empty words….

  5. Classic leftists in high university positions without any guts to take on the Palestinian protesters.

  6. Penn,Harvard, and MIT, are bottom feeders, sad performance from theseschools!!!!!!

  7. Yeah but calling for the genocide of Jews is okay in “the right context”?! These people shouldn’t be allowed to educate anything ever again

  8. The only way to cure antisemitism is to abolish symbolism.

  9. Words with out action are just words. Actions show your real intentions of your so called democracy!

  10. We are a Republic, not a democracy

  11. 🙏🏻🤍💙🕊🇮🇱🇺🇸

  12. Absolutely DISGUSTING & UNACCEPTABLE

  13. Words, no action, is hot air

  14. Also funny how “antisemitism” is all of a sudden a big issue when Israel wants a war. Perhaps to disagree with the established war narrative automatically labels you as “antisemitic”?

  15. Funny how she’s a student of “constitutional democracy”, but is unaware that creating laws which protect a certain religion is directly against the first amendment to the constitution, specifically where it states “Congress shall make no laws respecting an establishement of religion…”

  16. Just set an example and suspend those who create hate.

  17. It's only lip service, we need real actions.

  18. Boomer politicians and Jew's definitions of antisemtic:"criticizing or calling Israel out makes you a racist to Jews".

  19. All that schooling and fails to have the correct pauses…. nice world salads #pause THRIVE 😂😂 SOUNDS like you need someone to teach you how to give a speak #longerpause 😂 to thrive

  20. Free speech has limits. It has limits in a Court room, it had limits in Parliament, it has limits in a primary school, it has limits in an army. There are multiple context in which free speech is limited in s CIVIL society. Free speech is limited in the manner in which you exercise it in relation to other rights and Responsibilities. This is what distinguished CIVAL society from Anarchy. At present you have Anarchy.

  21. I completely agree that colleges must work on this problem. But let's face it though… the students committing violence, bullying, or even just rudeness against those different from them CAME to these universities with these prejudices already ingrained in them having learned it from their families and friends. It's going to take more than a class or seminar to change this. Plus… freedom of expression is one thing… It doesn't mean they are exempted from the expectations of good and ethical behavior that should be a requirement on all college campuses. It doesn't have to be complicated. It can be as simple as requiring students know and follow The Golden Rule: " DO unto others as you would have them do unto you."' We can disagree… We can even dislike someone…. and STILL treat them decently. Students need to know THEY are not the judge, juror, and executioner of anyone's life.

  22. I agree with her one hundred percent good Jobs.
