If debt increases 50% in ten years then maybe half of that, maybe more, is just inflation, not a real increase. It would be incredibly easy to pay off the rest, just hire more IRS agents to catch tax cheats. A huge amount of income is not reported on tax returns. But Republicans refuse to hire cops to catch the crooks.

Any govt. dept. or agency and it's employees should get raises and bonuses for any budget money saved over the previous year. Most spend up all their budget savings in the last month in order to run it dry and ask for more the next year. Then people will be flocking by the millions to get one of those jobs but the people working there already will turn them away in a nano second and even want to cut a lot of the fat' This is a perfect system. But they must also fulfill their mandates and upgrade infrastructure as required and necessary.

I would doubt very much the ability of the Fed Gov to budget on a 10 year plan, given that we, society, seem to be going from one crisis to the next. There will be another trillion dollar problem, bet on it. We ought to budget in the "trillion dollar problem."
