In the Southwest, record rainfall in cities such as Dallas triggered dozens of emergency rescues across the region. The area went from a drought to intense amounts of rain. Commuters were swimming from their cars to reach higher ground and firefighters had to pull drivers to safety as a wave of murky flood water washed over major roads.
