Recovery efforts are underway in Davenport, Iowa, after part of an apartment building collapsed as authorities investigate what could have caused the collapse. NBC News’ Shaq Brewster reports from Davenport.

This building collapse happened the day before Memorial Day and "Davenport" contains an anagram of "veteran." I wonder how long it took SAC-SOG to plant the demolition charges?

Republicans ALL voted 'NO!' on the US infrastructure improvement bill. 'NO!' to funding improvements, staffing, inspections or upgrades. They've got THEIRS, why should they worry?

If it's like half the larger investment properties in downtown Davenport and most other small cities, the building is owned by some one from Chicago or a larger city. The building passes inspection as long as the taxes are up to date and the elevators pass. Everything else that doesn't get posted publicly on site passes and the payoffs go on.
Why do these reporters smile with a happy light in their eyes. How disgusting. Zero sympathy.

American archaic infrastructure. Maybe America should blame the Chinese for being the world's leaders in infrastructure and fast speed rail. Maybe America should blame the Japanese for having bullet trains way back in 1964 when The Beatles released their first record album. America, 59 years behind the rest of the world. Last year there was radioactive water leaks in Minnesota and now Philadelphia and Louisiana. Where is Biden's infrastructure funding? Surely DeSantis hasn't used the infrastructure funds to send migrants from another state to another state like he did with the Covid funding.

Pretty interesting how fast the Mayor trying to pawn off any liability. It's kinda like everything that rattled out his mouth was contradictory. How you gonna take complaints serious, but let the building management audit themselves? I feel like we live in a time of staggering ignorance.
Reviews from 8 years ago show tenants made complaints about the building integrity. The landlord did nothing then. The current owner did nothing until the city of Davenport FINALLY sent them a notice. There were construction workers in that building as it started collapsing. I'm from Davenport. This is pretty typical for that area. Davenport and Rock Island have been falling apart for decades and no one will do anything.
While the Slumlord live in a beautiful 5 bedroom, 4 bathrooms, 3 Car garage house!!!
They plan on starting demo tomorrow morning! And as of 2 hours ago, theres 3 or 4 people missing. The pictures ive seen of the cracks, theres no way a 3 year old wouldnt have condemned the place. They were the most basic of structural cracks that anyone with even a quarter of a brain would know were dangerous. The Quad Cities operates on whos got money. People like Matson have no idea how normal people live. Ive met a lot them when i did real estate, theyre so out of touch with real people its unreal.

Let's just be honest. We live in the throes of a late stage capitalist country that only cares about the Almighty Dollar and nothing else. They used to just shear us like sheep but now
it is more like they want to squeeze every last drop of money out of us.
The roof ac units weight, old bricks, the smell of gas for a while, recent flooding, poor old building just failed from age basically. More then likely the entire thing will be ripped down I doubt its salvageable even if historic. Bets they skipped proper inspections and maintenance in key areas too.
Might be the AC system that caused too much vibration over the building. Might not have had enough of a shock system under the AC.
I used to live there. All my complaints and cases were for nothing. They all back each other up. Judges for real.
