Dusty Johnson (R-S.D.) said President Joe Biden and House Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s debt ceiling deal contains “historic wins,” and plans to vote in favor of the spending cuts. “The Democrats have grown government over the last 60 years because they understand the power of incrementalism. I think part of the problem with Republicans is that we are so often focused on hitting the Hail Mary pass that we forget about the power of incrementalism,” Johnson said.

It's hypocritical for Republicans to put "work requirements" in on low income workers in order to pass the debt ceiling. Think about the fact that the Republicans already voted against universal childcare and yet they plan to force a national ban on abortion. They already voted against family medical leave, school lunches, increasing funds to public schools, universal Healthcare, affordable housing etc.
The MAGA Republicans have nothing to lose if they default on the national debt, it's those who can not afford to lose not one dime of their meager income that will suffer the affects.
Republicans have a responsibility and an obligation to respect the needs of the low income people who voted for them, we should not be ignored just because we are not rich.
The MAGA Republicans set a precedent that holding the USA economy hostage during negotiations is a political ploy they can use. They still have to vote on the debt ceiling and don't forget that Republicans like Gaetz, MTG, Mike Lee and Chip Roy publicly stated that they would vote against the debt ceiling if cuts are not made. The GOP have absolutely nothing to lose by putting our economy in jeopardy for deliberately defaulting on the debt. Fact is not a single one of them will be financially affected. Their failure to raise the debt ceiling will ONLY affect those of us who can least afford it. We are the ones who will have to pay late fees and bank overdraft fees and it will take months to recover from one missed or late payment.

We do not have a labor shortage in this country. What we need to do is hold big business accountable. Fine them with taxation and tariffs for moving our factories overseas. That will make it cheaper to pay American workers. A good salary. Nobody wants to work for nothing. We do not need immigrants to do our cheap work. We need to hold big business accountable.

The welfare work requirements sounds good in theory, but doesn't work as intended. Its a one size fits all requirement, that doesn't account for the many varied reasons why people can't work.
Illinois already implemented work requirements years ago and it sucks. There are thousands of disabled people like me who are forced to work any job even though they are not suitable jobs to handle disabled workers. I get fired every 2 to 3 weeks, with a minimum of 6 jobs per year. When you push marginalized people, they snap. Mass shootings, theft, and other crimes will increase.

It’s quite plain then that, for Republicans, the point of the debt-ceiling standoff was not to advance deficit reduction, but rather, a budget that prioritized low taxes for the rich and high spending on the military over all other fiscal priorities.
