Sadly these events will continue as long as government continues to allow people to live and operate businesses in disaster prone areas. Disaster prone meaning near bodies of water that can produce storm surge from hurricanes without any type of barrier or levee protection. Florida needs to put a 40ft tall barrier around the entire state to prevent storm surge but they won't so I think Florida should ban people from living in areas that can be destroyed by storm surge. These people knew this storm had to potential to reach CAT5 status when it hit Cuba but many did not listen and many did not learn from the destruction with Katrina & Harvey along the gulf coast. To say people did not have enough time is completely wrong. People are stubborn and think they know it all so now i hope this disaster opens everyone's eyes to evac when told and to explore permanently relocating away from low areas.
