Riots erupt after Senegalese political leader sentenced to jail

Riots broke out after a court sentenced leading Senegalese opposition politician, Ousmane Sonko, to two years in jail for corrupting youth. Sonko, who was widely expected to run in next year’s presidential election, was accused of raping a woman in 2021 and making death threats against her.
