  1. black people invented rock and roll, this guy is a clown. His company is named after Muddy waters song and soo is the group The rolling stones, in fact they had Mud go on tour with them to pay respect.

  2. Rock and Roll comes from Blues. Rock and Roll was a slang term for sex from Southern Blacks. The Rolling Stones rock band revered Muddy Water, in fact the group named their band after a Muddy Waters song. The magazine called Rolling Stones does what typical American society does. That is to steal from the originals and praise the artificial. The disrespect never stops.

  3. Patti Smith, has written real books of personal history and poetry over 5 decades. Is that articulate enough? Little Richard is mentioned in many major RnR hall fall from fame acceptance speeches. Perhaps Jann was asleep.

  4. Chuck berry invented rock and roll

  5. Rolling Stone is a rock magazine. “Rock”, or “Classic Rock” is different from Rock and Roll. Besides Jimi Hendrix, or maybe Slash, there is no major black artist in that genre, so why is he obligated to include a black artist? Is there such a requirement to include white artists in a book about R and B, Rap, or Gospel?

  6. So I guess when Elvis Presley stole from Little Richard and called it Rock and Roll makes him a philosopher and master. Over it !!!!

  7. Don't name the book "the masters", name it 'Jan's favorite articulate musicians' and there would be no problem. Also, you're telling me Mick Jagger is articulate? Surprise there.

  8. The audacity to attempt to diminish Marvin Gaye, Curtis Mayfield and Joni Mitchell is embarrassing.🤦‍♂️

  9. It is true that not everyone gives a good interview. I once saw a video interview with an old-time folk singer who answered most of the questions with, "Yes", "No", and "I don't know." That's not the kind of interview that ends up in the history books.

  10. "That diminished the contributions of Black artists"? Forget "contributions" — they are the intellectual proprietors of the genre. Rock n' roll is one of many musical forms taken for granted as "American" rooted in Black musical traditions.

Despite being a direct beneficiary of Black creativity, which happens to be rock and roll in this case, Jann Wenner will have people believe that he couldn't find a single Black talent worthy of representation in his book. The entertainment world has often treated behavior such as Wenner's as one-offs or isolated events; far from it, behavior like Wenner's is the norm rather than the exception. Wenner's actions are a symptom of a phenomenon known as imperialism. When people hear "imperialism," they often think of land grabs, but imperialism can extend into the cultural domain. Cultural imperialism comes in two forms: erasure and appropriation. Cultural appropriation is an insidious racism in the entertainment industry that rarely gets much attention unless a prominent insider [like Wenner] does or blurts out something that is brazenly insensitive.

Today's youth might be surprised to learn that rock n' roll was once the scorn of "mainstream America" in its early days, so much so that it often became the target of racial slurs. The genre went from being a peripheral "jungle music" or "race music" to becoming a "mainstream" phenomenon after drawing the admiration of aspiring White talent who went on to become its "ambassadors." Given society's short memory, all that history turned into "water under the bridge," to the point where folks have made rock and roll synonymous with White "boy bands," or in these days, White "boy bands" of men in their eighties. Mr. Wenner's racist profiling is indicative of this turn of events. To give a taste of how things used to be, take a movie titled "Untamed Youth" from 1957. Several rock and roll numbers appeared in it, but what's interesting about the film is that one character mockingly referred to the music form as "African antics." That was the sign of times, but it shows how far rock and roll has come.

  11. He just set the legacy of Rolling Stone and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as both exclusively for white males and their music. That's fine. Whites can't complain when we establish a Hip Hop Hall of Fame or an R&B Hall of Fame.

  12. THIS IS WHATS HAPPENS WHEN YOU DRINK THAT GODDAMN TRUMP VODKA!!!!!

  13. He meant every word otherwise it would have never left his lips. Now he is feeling shame and backlash. Funny how when you’re outed you start backpedaling fast. His apology is not needed or wanted because his actions tell it all. Don’t buy his book.. send him a message that way..

  14. …he aint wrong though, just trying talking to one of these braindead liberal leftist feminist singers, seriously…

  15. You should also pull his comments on the uva case.

  16. Winters is a Ignorant, Inarticulate Racist himself!
He has the audacity to judge someone's creative genius! Winters is definitely a candidate to the A-Hole Hall of Fame!!

  17. Looks like someone is running out of San Francisco bands and Bruce Springsteen articles…

  18. That's why I don't listen to nostalgia ,these people are gate keep from the 50s looking after themselves………MASTER & ELITE

  19. He didnt even look…. that is the messed up part. He further adds insult to injury when he say his profile of ONLY white males was not deliberate….really you just said how you felt. Now you want to lie. Racism F America up.

  20. Why are people so shocked and surprised that a relic form the Jim Crow Era is racist?! LMBO! OF COURSE, HE'S IGNORANT! MOST OF THEM ARE FROM THAT ERA!!

  21. Translation: "I should've included a token or two, a ni**er and a b*tch, so the world wouldn't find out i was/am a racist and a sexist bigot while promoting. Then i wouldn't have to articulate how I'm not ___, although i really am. I'm not defensive, I just don't like living in a world where I'm not seen as supreme, …i mean a master, …i mean … I'm a white male so buy my book please." 😂😂😂

I wonder what the "masters" he included in his book think. Did he tell them this was a so-called white man only thing? 🤔

Imagine being a recording artist and having to deal with this type.

I do appreciate his honesty though. I wish all racists would haphazardly come out like this. He shouldn't be cancelled IMO (no one should). To the contrary, we need to keep his old inarticulate ass talking so that we can learn more about the ideology behind his views.

After all, many of us might harbor some wild views as well. Only we're not as famous, or we simply have never had any pushback of an opinion deemed controversial.

Duck his apology. More interviews please and let's pull that string and see where it leads. Why is he so sexist and racist? I implore the journalists to find that out.

We have to study the disease in order to create the vaccine.

    Respect.

  22. Old white man who think he smart then everyone, every one on that !list would have gave credit to their Black Influence

  23. The nerve of this clown. Black people created Rock and Roll!!!!

  24. His caucasity and misogyny are unreal! Who could talk more intellectually about music than the Black people who created so many mainstream genres?
He eats well off the genres created by Black folks yet had the nerves to disrespect them all like this.
His type needs to hurry up and die out.

  25. Just absurd comments. The outgroups he failed to interview aren’t just contributors to something that white men made great, they are some of the key producers, singers, and artists who have made popular music what it is today. Of all things to try to center White men around, using popular music is just laughable and false.

  26. Rock n roll was started, created by, and stolen from a BLACK WOMAN, Sista Rosetta Tharpe. He is racist and now it is coming out that he is older. He probably has been operating like this his entire life. The Beetles, Rolling Stones…Elvis Presley stole their careers from Black artists, male and female. I truly hope his book does not sell.

  27. Cancel culture seems to hold the power aye?

  28. He’s clearly racist and doesn’t respect women and the older those kind of people get they care less about hiding it. He’s showing his true colors! Shameful and pathetic!

  29. Black people started rock and roll

  30. Why are Biden voters such racist misogynists?

  31. It was a stupid comment he made. Wynton Marsalis is genius talking about jazz, but Wenner believes that there are no folks of color or woman capable of talking intelligently about rock and roll?

  32. Black people created rock and roll. Nothing he said is surprising. Just like rap, they want to say other people did. America always steals from black people and take their inventions.l

  33. SEE THE SIGNS OF THE TIMES…BE READY!

  34. A racist and his dying magazine

    RIP

  35. Missy Elliott is better than all the men he actually did put in the book, he can choke lol

  36. One absurd what is happening in the US. Unbelievable what is happening mainly in NYC. One complete invasion by immigrants in downtown, high number of homeless, high number drugs dealers, addicts, criminous, homicides, child abuses and others terrible crimes. Who is the guilty? It´s simple answer this question, the US current president Joe Biden and your team. Then IMPEACHMENT NOW FOR JOE BIDEN, before he destroys the USA.
