Watching DeSantis playing out his long honed act as "little Trump" is a joy from my view as a Democrat. He's trying to slice off Trump's base, but as one Republican governor summed it up, "Who wants Robin when you can have Batman?" Let the two of them hiss and spit at each other from here to the primary. With luck and a few criminal prosecutions for Trump, DeSantis will win the primary, and Trump will continue the campaign all the way to the Nov 2024 election, claiming that "evil forced in the Party corrupted the nominee selection". I expect that the traditional fat-cat Republican donors will largely sit out this fight, but to the extent that Trump and DeSantis can absorb and waste that campaign money before the election itself – just great.
