Stop worrying about what Putin is going to do. Give Putin some threats to worry about. Build up NATO forces in the Baltics. Make it look like an invasion is being planned into Russia. That'll divert their attention. Get some non-nuclear missiles into Ukraine aimed at the Kremlin. If things turn sour, launch one. Let Putin feel what destruction is like.

MSM from the West are sugesting Russia is forced to change their approach because they are losing the initiative. There is no major shift in strategy for Russian (RF) military and they are not falling behind the schedule.Their (RF) performance is actually steady and fast (no matter what the MSM is reporting). If we reminisce the 3rd Gulf War in 2003., US forces with Allies (Brits, etc.) took 23 day to reach Baghdad on a desert flat and sparsely populated terrain of Iraq. Russians are not pushing on the Kyiv itself because its not their objective at the moment. RF military is projecting force towards the Capital with intention to tie Ukrainian (UA) forces there (in Kyiv) instead where they would be more useful. Right now RF military objective is to take control of the west bank of Dnieper river . UA forces build up forces in Kyev and their stubborn defence in the East at Kharkiv and Donbas Frontline have actually positive effect for the RF military initiative like we see in the South of the country. The Best (equipped, trained and expirienced) UA military units are in the East and Kyiv so cutting them off along Dnieper would be a major and probably decisive defeat for UA military. That's why RF forces in South (from Crimea) who are pushing from Kherson did not turn West after Nikolayev but North-East to Krivy Rog with another push North from Melitopol towards Zaporozhye. In the North, that large RF military convoy from Chernobyl to Kyiv did disperse at last and will probably bypass the Capital itself and push South. Krivy Rog is crutial to encircle UA forces along the Dnieper. UA military should retreat (while they can, they have 5-7 day's max) and regroup West of Dnieper to prevent encirclement and destruction in the East.
About possibility of RF using chemical or biological weapon's that is not very likely. RF would not have any positive effect to use those weapon's only downsides. They can achieve all their objectives with conventional warfare. Further more, thru their engagement so far we've seen they are pretty restraint in contact with civilian's hoping not to alienate them to much thus trying to avoid future resistance and insurgency (we've seen them alowing civil protest in ocuppied towns like Kherson or Berdyansk, or them not cutting off electric power distribution from ocuppied Zaporozhye nuclear plant to UA energetic system on free territory). Using WMD (like ChBW) against civilians would definitely undo those efforts.
