Schools struggling to hire teaching staff as return to class approaches

Across the country, teacher and other staff shortages fueled by the pandemic are showing no signs of easing. As back-to-school rapidly approaches, NBC News’ Shannon Pettypiece takes us to a Pennsylvania district that’s had to hire non-professionals without classroom experience to fill the gap.

  1. Let's see the education has failed teachers and teaching staff. The education has also greatly failed the kids and families. Teachers are severely underpaid, overworked etc. Kids are NOT held accountable for their actions or behaviors. The parents always blame the teachers but never their own kids. If YOU WANT TEACHERS MAKE A CHANGE!! START TREATING THEM WITH RESPECT, PAY THEM MORE AND HOLD THESE KIDS ACCOUNTABLE FOR THEIR ACTIONS!!!!!!

  2. School systems have been telling parents that they have no say in what their children learn – that the school should function against the parents' wishes. That children have to be taught immorality, and aren't allowed to be taught the Bible or pray. And then they expect those same voiceless parents to donate their children to be raised by the atheistic government, and to vote for tax levies to support that corruption. And when they homeschool their kids, and class sizes drop, and they stop funding a bad education with more taxation – well – this is what results. You reap what you sow.

  3. I started my teaching career in the early 80's and still tutor kids at our local schools.
The amount of paper work, extra duties, regulations, meetings, and other non-
instructional red tape involved in the teaching profession is enormous compared to
    when I started my career.

Students have changed, parents have changed and of course the world has changed.
There are still great kids and parents out there who are genuinely interested in learning
all they can so they will become great citizens, but the negatives sometimes outweigh
the positives for some educators to make a lifelong career out of teaching.

  4. Of course they need hire pay, it’s hard to find people that actually care about being a teacher those days are long gone.

  5. I pray for are children that nothing happened to them and I hope parents put there foot down to their children because my kids know I don't play and I don't let them disrespect their teachers ❤

  6. because all of are great teachers left because of all the crime the kids are doing and getting away with it we have alot more bad teachers now then anything

  7. Funny, I listen to this but they leave out the major reason of teachers stepping back…yes Covid was an issue, but why didn't the list as problems as Republicans state control ,limiting books used to teach, laws arresting teachers for not following the agenda, students shooting teachers, students shooting students, students attacking buss drivers, and teachers…to MUCH BS..
limiting the teachers ability to give well rounded world knowledge😢

  8. 🙏Matthew 24:3-26 KJV
3 And as he (Jesus) sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?

4 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.

5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.

6 And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.

7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.

8 All these are the beginning of sorrows.
Jesus is appearing soon for the Church! Titus 2:13, 1 Thessalonians 5:9, Revelation 3:10, Romans 5:9 etc.❤

  9. You kick God out of School 50 years ago not alowing School prayer, and opened the door to the Anti-Christ to come in destroy your Schools and Children, Cause and Effect happens in the Spiritual Realm to.

  10. When I got my degree 15 years ago we were a dime a dozen and districts treated us like that.

We were told as we were getting our degrees that many of us wouldn’t get jobs. While our friends had paid internships we were working for free as student teachers, often purchasing our own materials to use in lessons as these schools got us for free. At the same time we often had to go through multiple in-person interviews, teach a lesson, and then be interviewed again for a shot at a position. That was for the privilege of making $37k a year before taxes. That was just to get in the door.

Once you got there you were subjected to every single issue that society has playing out in the classroom. Every dysfunctional, sad, dangerous trauma played out at random on a daily basis. At the same time the teachers’ union was fighting to make sure our pay wasn’t tied to these kids’ standardized test scores- of which there were FOURTEEN tests my final year of teaching. Does the public even keep track of how many of these tests these kids are taking per year between the practice tests, screening tests, and the “real” ones?

I walked away almost a decade ago and haven’t looked back. I hope to never go back. I don’t want to be in a school. I don’t want my kids in a school. Many of my friends are in debt and can’t get of teaching. If that obstacle were gone tomorrow I know several who would quit on the spot.

  11. We don't have a shortage of teachers willing to work. We have a shortage of schools willing to work with teachers. Our education system is dominated by Ed.D's with only one policy approach: hold teachers accountable and blameworthy for everything, and hold students accountable for nothing. These administrators have created a toxic workplace where teachers are routinely threatened and bullied on a daily basis. We need to completely overhaul our education system and make administrators subordinate to teachers.

  12. Educators stand up & say you can home school your children if you dont like how hard I work to educate your children for little money & 0 respect!

  13. I was offered a job in SFUSD, (San Francisco Unified) I asked what my salary would be, the Principal said you have to ask the HR department. I called and left 5 messages with 3 different HR people in the course of 3 days. No one returned my call, I instead accepted a position in another school. Teacher shortage but the school district offices don't care/work.

  14. To solve lack of teachers and staff shortage. Schools, companies, government and people collaborate to go IT, they need to provide flexible work and part time work by website like online platform, food delivery and digital payments services on mobile devices to let people take on work task for money .Charity and social service must join force, they need to go IT, build a job portal like website which allow people to take up volunteer work and work task and people to give work task.

  15. This was all fortold in our own Government's study entitled, "A Nation at Risk" in 1983. Dear Parents, you have nobody to blame but yourself.
We told you what was coming and we left the Teaching Profession in droves!
Good luck with the future of barely educated Teachers. You put it all on yourselves.

  16. Maybe if parents were to do their job and put their kids in line, there wouldn’t be a teacher shortage.

  17. I think the parents are responsible for the classroom being wild and disrespectful. I don’t think it was ever this bad in the past, I was a high schooler between 2015-2019, and I was begging my parents to be home schooled because how how relentless everyone was. I would never ever ever be a teacher because of it and that’s why there’s a shortage

  18. If there’s no teachers, who are the students going to have relationships with then!? 😂

  19. Its like they're on strike but not really lol
Teachers need better pay in k-12.
College professors have it easy with mostly mature adults.

  20. Too many parents and kids thinking they know it all and thinking these educators are bunch of chumps who can be abused. Want teachers back in the classrooms? They better bring back consequences, forced parental support, and absolutely no cell phones on school grounds.

  21. I guess the open-border democrats didn't have the intellectual capacity to realize their ushering in of 3000 to 10,000 migrants daily would result in a greater number of teachers being required. But then again, maybe the democrats just didn't care as they have always been more concerned with taking care of the teacher's unions instead of taking care of the students.

  22. 'stressful and poorly paid job struggles to find new suckers'

  23. The GOP wants this to happen as part of their cultural reset to corporatize and privatize k-12 education and make it for-profit (similarly to what they did for prisons). The last of the unionized public teachers will be replaced with corporate "learning consultants" who mostly make sure the computers stay on while kids learn via videos and software. Of course, the religious private schools will remain unchanged though so those kids can read textbooks that say the Earth is 6000 years old.

  24. China, Korea, Singapore, UAE, Japan don't have this problem. Their students are respectful and eager to learn.

  25. Well who wants to live there in the old coal/iron belt, it's so polluted.

  26. Yep, Act 10 in Wisconsin. The trickle down effect!

  27. I am dying of laughter.
    🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣☝️
    🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣☝️

  28. School just teaches you to be good employees. Your in an institution with other peers for 8 hours for 5 days a week off weekends, 30 min lunches 2 15 min breaks “recess” and your doing what your told, meeting dead lines and making kids grow up as poor and soulless beings looking forward to a week or a couple days vacation.

  29. Welp ! You all voted for Biden and look what happens on your vote .

  30. Kids and their parents have all the power, and principals totally back them. Kids are way overrated.

  31. I don’t blame teachers for quitting.

They receive ZERO support from many of the communities they serve and politicians are constantly attacking them for being “woke” etc.
