NBC News’ Lester Holt spoke to Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg in an exclusive interview about the challenges the travel industry is facing. High demand, unpredictable weather, and pilot shortages have caused over 20,000 cancellations and 173,000 delays since memorial day. Secretary Buttigieg said that while some of these issues are “long term,” others, such as a realistic schedule, should be delivered right away.

Buttigeg as transportation secretary has been a nightmare. He is a complete failure.
He's always impressed me with his ability to think on his feet and respond with thorough, accurate responses. He's not flustered by much that I can see and he never backed down from a Fox interview. Very impressive, we need people like him in higher positions where common sense and good communication skills would garner fantastic results.
I know I'll feel safer knowing my pilot was hired because of skin color and not because he or she was the most qualified.

Lots of bots and trolls, but some fine comments too. Buttigieg is excellent thinker, but I would like to see him in a more fast-paced department. I am impressed by his arguments and his research. I would bet on him in almost any debate.

There was no question about the length of pilot training, and that being a cause of many pilot shortages. I wanted to hear if they would shorten pilot training to get pilots in the air, but I guess they can't ask tough questions in an interview…
