Throw the book at everyone who was involved. That man can’t get his mother back and they created horrible circumstances under which she passed while skirting the law.
Surely the DA that got that warrant signed& the judge that signed it are responsible & should be held accountable for the ensuing police action as well as the subsequent death of the woman?
Judge Laura Viar who signed warrant had many DUIs, once crashed government vehicle into a school building, drunk with suspended license for prior DUI.
Police chief also have a criminal history.
This search was the biggest mistake they made, now whole country get know them.
Hope the newspaper sues every cop, judge, DA, even the Karen restaurant owner; everyone involved for all they have and then some. If there is a go fund me page for the newspapers legal expenses I will gladly donate to the cause.
Maybe even see if the ACLU wants to go after them too.

Not one of them have offered up condolences or apologies to the families of the deceased victim.

Wasn’t the paper investigating the police chief for incidents that happened when he was an officer in Kansas City? (May have the town wrong though) Still can’t understand how police can be let go from one department for misconduct or whatever and then be hired by a neighboring town/county. They can just do something wrong, be let go and then drive 15/20 miles into the next town and get hired? Seems wrong.
No one will be held accountable except for the taxpayers…You can thank your law makers for giving themselves QUALIFIED IMMUNITY!

The courts and law inforcment here was sooo complacent, they never imagined this would be covered nationally. One of the owners in her '90s, died from the stress within 24 hours after her house was raided

Eric (1 of the owners of the paper) , I pray 🙏 God gives him strength during this extremely difficult time of losing his mother & being treated so unfairly, bullied by the law enforcement agency in his community. When he is able he needs to talk to the best lawyer in his state , file a major lawsuit against the law enforcement agency that unlawfully raided & messed up his newspaper 📰 business and raided his mother’s home 🏡, causing his 98 year old mother such stress that she passed away during mid sentence while talking to her son (Eric). This is the United States of America 🇺🇸, there is freedom here & the constitution that protects American 🇺🇸 citizens. This isn’t a communist country nor a dictatorship!

Identity theft would not warrant the taking of phones or of material from the newspaper. They would first have to prove identity fraud and then next search the individual, not confiscate computers from the newspaper to go on a broad hunting expedition.

A warrant is public record after it is executed. So, what was it about?
Oh, and can the "we only have one constitution" crap. That state has one too. It, like my state, probably has many of the same protections and, when talking about common law (constitutional) protections, you start by siting them first.
That "Chief" was dirty in KCPD and he is dirty now! He was going to get demoted so he left KCPD to take this job at less then half the pay.. and u wanna dance around his culpability?!? He is dirty as dirt gets!

The police chief and judge need to be removed, it's that simple.
This needs to be federal criminal charges, not just a lawsuit. Deprivation of Rights Under Color of Law can put the chief and others in prison for years. No "qualified immunity" available.
An elderly woman died because of police negligence and it was all for nothing. I hope the police chief and judge who signed the warrant lose their jobs, never serve in public office again, and are held accountable for all of this mess. I hope the newspaper does file charges with the proper authorities. These small town cops trying to act big time is so sad!

In all of my 70 years on this Earth, with a strong background in Criminal Justice and all things Constitutional, I have NEVER heard of a search warrant being withdrawn. In fact, in cases where law enforcement has overreacted and violated constitutional rights, the reaction from law enforcement is THE BEST DEFENSE IS A GOOD OFFENSE and to pile on with false charges as a means of intimidation with prosecution. This PD must really recognize they're in the deep doodoo. Disband this police force and start over. Remove from office, the judge who signed the warrant and anyone else who politicized and weaponized the PD for their own personal grievances. START OVER.

What is wrong with these police? They are not in current events where the 1st amendment is front page news. Sounds like Republican activists attacking what they don’t like. Please stop thinking you are the way the truth and the light. You are not.
Raiding, attacking, confiscating items and worse causing a 90 year old woman to die 💔 every single person involved in this has the blood of this poor woman on their hands and I hope the town people never let them forget it. On one hand what happened is totally unbelievable on the other we all knew this was going to happen, what better place to start the training how to control freedom of speech than in a small town where the police and whoever else is involved didn’t think it would make international news. Big news media's personal will be next. Yeah we know most are already mindless puppets but I believe it has the potential to get allot worse. Then they'll experience what they have caused others to go through all these years.

unlike a lot of small town newspapers, this one was more than willing to ask questions that influential locals didn't want asked about them. that includes-surprise!-the local police chief and his time as an officer in the Kansas City police department.
