How can a candidate be elected with the help of a party, leave the party and still maintain the post? The party should be able to run a by-election and she should run again with her new party in order to continue to hold a senate chair, surely? She would never be elected if she had run backed by the independent party, period.

Sinema is perpetuating this very harmful myth that "both sides are equally extreme". The truth is that Democrats are a center-left party, and Republicans are a far-right party. The halfway point between one extreme and a moderate center is still extremism.
Krysten Sinema never really join the party in the first place, it was always her way or the highway. She could never persuade anyone to her views to help her state and it will only get worst now as a first term Senator.
