Six Mississippi law enforcement officers have pleaded guilty to a series of federal charges after investigators say they tortured two men for hours. NBC News’ Miguel Almaguer has more details on the case.

I took a look back at the summer protests of 2020 and how much (or little) has been done for Black people. A lack of progress on policing, voting rights, and other rights has left many feeling left behind. Not only did we not hold police accountable, we gave them even more money! Sadly, I am not stunned that this happened because we seem to be going in reverse from all that has been accomplished by those who stood and fought for civil rights for all, like Martin Luther King, Jr. What does stuns me is that 6 officers in the same PD share such twisted, evil minds; 5 at the beginning and one joining in to be part of this sick and evil behavior. These two men will be traumatized by this the rest of their lives. Whatever compensation they are offered by the city who hired these dirtbags, in my mind, will not be enough for what they had to endure. Officers of the law are held to a higher standard as they should be, so in that regard, they knew better than to go to trial and, acting like the cowards they are, pled guilty to avoid the circus their trials would become. Holding them to that higher standard, I hope the sentencing judge makes examples out of all 6 of them. I'm also wondering how many innocent people were framed by these officers over their years on the force: perhaps all their cases should be thoroughly investigated by an impartial Internal Affairs Department from a PD in an adjacent city. They didn't start out at this level of abuse and torture – they started small and grew in audacity and cruelty so their former cases and arrests and even testimonies if cases went to trial should be revisited.
