Rents are rising at the fastest pace in decades from coast to coast. A real estate research firm has reported a record 11.3 percent increase nationwide. The giant spikes hit the South, where many moved post-pandemic, enticed by the warmer weather. Realtor Storrie Ferrel says pandemic supply chain problems have made a shrinking market even smaller.

This whole news segment is idiotic beyond words. You are interviewing somebody who pays $6,000 a month in rent. Who on Earth can afford even that? And then you're interviewing a freaking realtor. A realtor. The very people that have created this mess. And she recommends that you spend even more money using a rental locator. It is a shambolic example of really really bad journalism. The recordkeeping needed to enact a withering gouger's tax is already required by law. We need to abandon this inane idea that something as fundamental as housing should be left to the purest of laissez-faire pricing – gouging simply because "the market says you can." The latter is a kind of price fixing, when you think about it.
Allow a reasonable income after owner expenses, but hammer excess gouging with a confiscatory tax.
State for state cannot complain about the hassle of homelessness and dealing with the problem when they're not dealing with the problem yet the people being interviewed have no worries on that
