Some Are Spending Hundreds Or Thousands To Keep Their Kids In Youth Sports

Many kids in the U.S., like Aidan Rael, love nothing more than hitting the ice with his recreational hockey league. But rising costs of everything from gear to gas and higher prices for young athletes to compete across the board are causing parents to make tough decisions. With sports associated with higher test scores and lower levels of depression and obesity, some families are cutting costly entertainment and eating out less in order to keep their children in the game. But, experts caution the higher prices will keep some kids off the playing field.

  1. Extremely life altering issue. But it was pricey for my kids 30 yrs. ago with one in figure skating and one in hockey. But there should be some level of price control…for every child to have the opertunity to dance,be a goalie or a musician…what ever they want to be. But I know that will never happen…GREED seems to have more value in this Era.

  2. That's what Democrats voted for.

  3. sports is for CHILDISH FOOLS. SPORRT IS A SUBSTITUTE FOR SUCCESS.

  4. The price shouldn’t effect family’s, because of your warmongering. You have these imaginary meanings, you feel are worth something, it might not be bad, the world turns their back on you. Puts you lower in the world, than even 3rd world country’s. Because of your guilt, lots of expensive weapons, good for you. You really should be buying and making local goods anyway. Same quality, twice the price. Still doesn’t mean you deserve to exist.

  5. get a stick and a ball for some baseball
Wrap magazines around your shins for soccer
    Get some flags for football

It’s like people have never been poor

  6. My boy is a little behind in sports, is it acceptable to feed him some testosterone if he identifies as a starting pitcher and clean up batter?

  7. ironic, i've spent hundreds to not have kids.

  8. Sounds more like a racket than a sport, also parents end up fight against each other if their child isn't a winner, once again satan busy causing division as usual. Time to help the homeless, donate to a local shelter and thank God daily for the roof over your head, repent to God in Jesus mighty name, and accept the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ as truth because we can see all the spiritual wickedness slithering around the world today.

  9. 11 of the top 12 states with the highest poverty rate are the Republican-led states of Mississippi, Louisiana, Kentucky, Arkansas, West Virginia, Alabama, Oklahoma, Tennessee, South Carolina, North Carolina and Texas. 4 of the top 5 states with the highest bankruptcy rate are the Republican-led states of Alabama, Kentucky, Mississippi and Tennessee.

  10. I don’t have kids but I have seen many friends and family chase this around for many years. It looks very expensive and very stressful in more cases than not as someone on the outside looking in. I often see families trying to be involved in too much or too many activities and spreading themselves thin and the child or children are not “mastering” anything they are involved in. I am very much an advocate for participating in healthy activities though. If I had children I would have the conversation of what’s the goal here? What’s the intent behind them choosing this sport? Do they want to do it to test themselves or is there an
underlying seeking of clout and/or fame under it? Some real talk. And if I like those answers I will do what I can to buy the best equipment I can afford to ensure it is a pleasurable and meaningful experience for them. I would tell them to pick one thing for now, choose wisely, and “master” it.

  11. God forbid you tell little Johnny “no”

  12. I’m a nurse and need decent affordable dental care

  13. The cost of sports is lower than the cost of endless devices. Healthier kids means a healthier society. Obesity is childhood is more likely to mean obesity in adulthood and the associated health problems.

  14. These lil bas…s might want to get a job

  15. I played ball in an old corn field. It was fun. I'll pray for these rich families, they must suffer so

  16. Unbelievable I just rick my paycheck with maskoffweb but to my greatest experience my payout just got in right now

  17. Unbelievable I just rick my paycheck with maskoffweb but to my greatest experience my payout just got in right now

  18. Polo and dressage came straight to my mind as expensive, and I don’t even like horses. As a Acadian, I love hockey but it is a far cry from many other sports when it comes to expense.

  19. Sports keeps kids out of trouble and to see parents have to fork out this kind of money is just shameful!

  20. My daughter was a competitive gymnast. From the age of 6 until she hit level 8 in 8th grade. It took thousands of dollars for the team leo’s, the grips, the team bags, the hotels, the professional pictures, the best coaches we could find, the tuition, the sport doctors…the the the. I was a gym mom and we spent all summer in training and we couldn’t go on vacations. At the gym by 8 am all summer long. The meet seasons was pure go go go. She learned discipline and the many blisters and determinations were her rights of passages. One day she said “mom, can I just be a kid?” That was the end of breathing chalk and bleachers for me. Yay! She donated all of her equipment for the little one’s just getting started. There should be more scholarships and different ones set up for kids who have dreams but parents can’t afford them. No kid should do without. We barely made car payments, mortgages, and not to mention the gas! Sponsor a kid if you know one who’s in need, the reward is priceless. ✨

  21. Nothing new with this. When I was a teenager in 2004 a 12 game season of ice hockey was nearly $5k and that didnt include any of the equipment.

  22. my nephews aren't in any sports, they play with kids in the area outside… that's what most poor kids do..

  23. The trials of middle class. Poor babies. Sacrifices.
    What about kids in Raqqa?

  24. I'm ok with bodybuilding and jogging.

  25. "F'ing" INSANE! GREED on the part of manufacturers of sporting gear! 😈

  26. Everything reeks inflation in the economy don't know who , however a person desires to pay attention to this , you have to stop relying on the government and saving all of your money . Venture into making an investment a few in case you actually want monetary freedom💸💸
