Krybabies teaching babies how to kry. We're freaking doomed.
Parents need to make up for the one less day. They need to do the work of reading with their children, taking them to the library, parks, museums and talking with them. The reality is education is not a 4-5 day, 6 hours a day. It’s everyday all day, including making sure the children get enough sleep and nutritious foods. I was a teacher for 2 years and quit because I had my own child and because I couldn’t hack it. It’s grueling, thankless work. Hopefully these teachers will get the time to plan and have less absenteeism.
Our district has been on 4 days/week (Monday – Thursday) for almost 10 years.
I think this is a good idea but I think a lot focuses on what is going to happen on that “non mandatory” Monday. They will still need teachers and money for lights and stuff but I do like that it’s a mental health day for both teachers and students. I think it makes much more sense for ADULTS to have a four day work week so they can recharge while their kid is at school but there is only so much they can do. Maybe if it starts working so we’ll for kids more companies will take it on
Fire half of these incompetent teachers. These are poor role models. We have five day work weeks. Welcome to adult hood.

One benefit is "reducing school fights". Yeah like 20% reduced… because the school is empty on Mondays?

What I heard when I listened to this.
Teachers are overworked and underpaid!
They need more support for the difficult job they do daily.
If schools genuinly fear that they're understaffed for a 5 day work week then a 4 day work week is better than half of the days missing teachers.
Really they should pay the teachers more but I understand that their pay is not completely in the districts control (due to limiting budget).
As a trade off add a extra hour for the 4 days since the students and teachers get 3 days off.
So kids get 30 less days of school each year? Seems like this is only good for the teachers. Why not switch to a 4 day week but make the school year year long?

I wish they did this in canada ! Kuds are in schools for too long! 6.5 hours! My daughter loved her first day, but now complains, she is tired and lessons are too long ! Back to basics – 3 hour school for little ones and 6 hours for high school! No blah-blah, draw and colour for an hour!
Hilarious how the last things these teachers care about it actually educating their students.
You politicize teachers and as students get more socially and emotionally taxing, the cost of qualified teachers will either cost a day off, or more money than we are willing to pay.
They've moved to this in my rural southern Missouri hometown. I'm not sure how this is going to work.
In Washington state there are some schools that have half day Wednesday for the students. Generally, Wednesday afternoon activities are available for the students. For the teachers Wednesday afternoons are for paper work, administrative tasks, meetings, training and other tasks that are better completed when students are not present.
Only good for teachers and their needs not for students

I dare them to do this in my rural community..i will not let that happen and then my family still being forced to pay the same taxes…and my child gets to lose a day of education that her and all the others need. So we are just expected to have a dumber and dumber society so they have workers to just work and die and taxed to death without the intelligence to fight back or the time since they will all be good little workers that the rich can live off of..this country really is turning into something i was warned about growing up by my grandfather

Social Workers get brunt out too. Social Workers work from Monday through Friday 8am to 4pm or 9am to 5pm. In Mental Health Supervisors are on call during the week and weekend. Social Workers bring work with them too. Some Social Workers do home visits which is dangerous because they don't know what will happen. Social Workers with a Bachelor's Degree are unpaid and don't get raises and no appreciation.
But they'll still try to cover 5 days worth of material.
In other words, our kids will be dumber.
How about paying teachers what they are worth?
Or maybe you are satisfied with dumb kids.
With a nation that places last amongst developed nations in science and math this is only going to make it worse.
