As students head back to school, a teacher shortage is causing some rural districts to shorten their weeks to only four days. The districts believe the four-day week will attract employees, competing with larger school systems that can afford to pay teachers more. However, some experts say the hours lost in the classroom can be detrimental to students over time.

That is great. We don't need 5 day weeks like before calculators were around. 4 day school weeks are well-proven to attract more highly qualified applicants. It's been well studied in Colorado, were over half the districts have had a 4 day week since before the pandemic. Also in spite of the vague "studies" cited here, there are others that show math scores improve and families quickly adjust and love it.
Honestly, this is probably a blessing in disguise. I think kids might do better if they have more free time to refresh, spend with their families, get homework done, etc.
The only downside is parents needing to find child care if they work
There is no learning loss. School is dumbing kids down. The only loss was 2 years of state behavior modification and thank GOD … the schools are evil and I don't agree with anything about them.
STOP having children.. especially considering y’all don’t want to really raise them. Teachers are TIRED.
I need to become a teacher. They have great hours and they are off all summer and have several weeks off for vacation. Society needs to realize young people are lazy af and don't want any jobs you have to have a masters for.
If it paid more, I’d use my degree to be a teacher. But they don’t, and i make more money in retail management 🙃

Honestly, there were many hours wasted in school when I was a kid. They taught so slowly, dumbed down many subjects. So, 4 day weeks used properly is not a bad idea. Many subjects are learned on our own, that’s what libraries are for.

4 days are enough. Leave a day for students to catch up on work and socialize, and for teachers to plan and grade.

Most kids will be happy but let's not forget the kids who need school as an escape. Not all homes are happy homes. And this is a childcare nightmare for most parents with M-F jobs.

I went to school in a 3rd world country, the day was split into AM school and PM school. I wonder if that’s where we’re headed..
That fifth day should be something online. They definitely have pre made videos of learning so many different things
Only issue is with no family care bills baby sitters can be 20$ an hour for cpr certification and then 15 an hour for state aid recipients….. so unless both mom and dad make 40$ an hour how does this help the family. …..
