When the coronavirus pandemic ground the transportation industry to a screeching halt in early 2020, the US government doled out more than $54 billion in aid to help pay employees and keep the systems from buckling. Southwest Airlines received more than $7 billion from that program.

SW is a big advertiser for ABC owner Disney so they are never going to push back..
SW and the Government don’t care about the passengers because most routes SW run are a monopoly with no other airline operating so they can treat you like trash because you have no option but to fly with them.
US gov could change the laws to force the airlines to break up and create more competition BUT congress and transport secretary is in the pocket of the airlines so nothing is ever done to fix this and we will always have a trash CORRUPT airline industry in the US

While other airlines use a hub system like Delta basing most of their flights out of Atlanta, Los Angeles and New York…Southwest uses a focus city approach of one plane going from Orange County, CA to Phoenix to Albuquerque to Des Moines and ending up in Tulsa. Flight crews can't be redirected when they are stuck in Des Moines but need to be in Tulsa. Other airlines are always returning back to the hub meaning things can be fixed within hours. But nope Southwest doesn't work that way.
This all started with Alfred E Kahn economist who deregulated the airlines back in the early 1980's
Cut costs, race to the bottom attitude in daily operations of airlines, boost stock share price then cash out with major bonuses to airline CEO's
If the GMA interviewer really knew anything he would have asked this "salesman" CEO about having processes in place to prepare for bad weather situations
Frozen deicer fluid on deicer trucks really, it called having People, Processes, Paper (3P's) plans in place to be ready for these events
Makes you wonder about how much preventative maintenance is being done on today's airline fleet?
If this was a real news interview, Jordan would have been asked why he used gov't bail out money to buy back stock instead of updating their systems.

They are blaming the weather to try to reduce their liability/shift the blame rather than taking responsibility for their failures. This EXACT behavior is routinely a contributing factor to why planes crash.
If he had taken accountability for the issues and honestly talked about what his plan is going forward (assuming they plan to fix their system), this interview could have made an impact on the public opinion of Southwest.
