Speaker McCarthy tries to push 45-day funding bill to avoid government shutdown #Shorts

Speaker Kevin McCarthy announced that the House will vote on a 45-day funding bill, as the lawmakers continue to work to avert the government shutdown.

The country is hours away from a shutdown, but Congress may slowly be coming together on a plan to stop it – for now, at least.

Lawmakers have not passed annual spending bills to fund the federal government or a temporary measure that would give them more time to hash out a deal.

The House on Saturday passed their version of a temporary measure to keep the government open, known as a continuing resolution, with bipartisan support. However, the Senate still has to approve the same plan to keep the government open.

Infighting among House Republicans has practically paralyzed the chamber from moving anything meaningful to stop a shutdown. The bills that have passed include more political theater, such as a $1 salary for Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, than line items able to pass the Democratic-controlled Senate.

The American people are sick and tired of you spending money with no consequences… This is on both sides! Everyone in Congress should lose $10,000 a day for every day that this is not past with no additional spending… I don’t want a 10% cut I want to 40% cut in our spending!
