Nichelle Nichols broke barriers in Hollywood during the 1960s, playing Lieutenant Nyota Uhura in the original Star Trek series. She became the first Black woman cast in a major role on primetime TV and made more history with the first interracial kiss on TV with costar William Shatner. Though she originally planned on leaving after the first season, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. convinced her otherwise. Nichols was a NASA recruiter inspiring generations of women and minorities to join the astronaut corps.

An amazing woman in so many ways.
As a 13-year-old when ST TOS came out, I loved the diversity on the Bridge! Perhaps a bit ahead pf my time!
Didn’t know booster shots were considered natural. Lol.
She will never be forgotten as her Light will shine in the UNIVERSE as do the other that have gone before her in the STAR TREK universe. Wonderful is the mark her life left behind of the future generations to see

not a single person would know this, but the DEEP SOUTH did not want to show Star Trek because they did not want to see black women get inspired and rise higher. Plus Star Trek was a very liberal show and Southerners did not like the show. I bet no one knew that.

Boy did I love Ms. Nichols. As a 10 year old she was my wonder girl. Today I told my daughter that i was supposed to marry Uhura when I was 10 but she told me she had a 5 year mission that needed to be completed. 😆. R.I.P. my love 💕
I’m holding my cat Uhura, and feeling shock. RIP Nichelle; a catalyst for progress, and an inspiration to so many ‘girl geeks’ all over the world. This is the first time that I’ve heard of a celebrity passing, and felt physically winded.

I'm pretty sure when Star Trek first was released there wasn't a big emphasis on the Colour of her skin or how "powerful" and "diverse" it was. Only in the current year of crap do we get this shoved down our throats. This Woman was a great actress in her own right and will be remembered for her role in one of Sci-Fis greatest series.
There was a special toast, offered to honor a fallen comrade, and friend. So let us Raise our glasses. "To absent friends."
