Social Media is a scapegoat, of course kids are lonely, where are they supposed to hang out? Most places dont have parks, and if they do teenagers are often told to leave for loitering in groups. They cant go to malls, theres like nowhere for kids to be social anymore.

My teenager has only one friend. He is super smart but awkward and can't play any type of sports and gets bullied because kids think he's weird. He has friends he plays games with online and doesnt get made fun of…we have done everything to address the bullying at school and the school officials have done some things but you can force other teenagers to like you. He's in therapy and has been for years. I guess what I am saying is, if not for social media friends through his games his mental health would be worse.

Teens are not the only ones affected. I am an older adult and I have become so depressed over the things I see, hear and read on social media. All the ugliness in the world and in people is there on full display. When I was younger, the only thing comparable was seeing images of assasinations or the blood and gore of the Vietnam War. Of course that wasn’t any better but it wasn’t a constant, in-your-face barrage of hatred and horror every second of every day. I blame social media for much of the turmoil in our country today. Not only does it spread hatred, but also lies and disinformation that more gullible people can’t distinguish from the truth because our educational system hasn’t given them the tools to do so.
Yeah nothing to do with telling people to stay home stay lives during the pandemic and keeping kids at home. The surgeon general and people who over reacted to covid are complicit for causing the mental illness that came from the pandemic.

Why is this a f**king issue?! I don't have that problem with my children, guess why? THEY ARE NOT ALLOWED TO HAVE OR BE ON ANY SOCIAL MEDIA app. It's balance in my home, I police/counsel at the same time. Some parents today want to be friends and let things fly, NOT in my house. The moment some of these parents remember they are a parent and not a FRIEND then maybe something will change.🤨

Kids need to be 13, to have a social media acct? That's just about the age where self-esteem issues start! Watched a documentary that talked about teen suicides, and the majority of it was a result of social media nonsense. I'm so glad we didn't have this garbage, when I was a kid!
