Tampa police Chief Mary O’Connor resigned following an internal affairs investigation into a traffic stop where the former chief flashed her badge. Tampa Mayor Jane Castor said O’Connor’s behavior was “unacceptable” as public officials should not use their positions for special treatment. WFLA’s Jeff Patterson reports.

This is silly she did nothing worthy of this much scrutiny. You people are extremely bored
Organized criminals!
Hallelujah! Accountability is needed all around. Anyone who thinks that they are above the law is dillusional. We know that this stuff happens all the time but its nice to see when justice is served (however so slightly).
she was doing that to protect herself or husband and all present meaning the officer.
you can think what you want or side with the "butch" lesbian mayor–she did nothing wrong.
there is a marginal minor issue with this call me and gave him her business card.
if you're a doctor lawyer dentist.. or anybody you can present an ID and "ask" for no ticket.
the key word here is ask she never told or directed him to do anything–she politely and respectfully "asked".
notice an area that nobody comments on in the media or here. she was the passenger in this heinous runaway golf cart her husband/spouse.. what's the driver.
so let's understand this right in all this discrimination and bigotry talk.
if the passenger was a male LE officer and his wife was the driver. and they got pulled over especially by a male officer…
would that cop/spouse.. in the front passenger seat stay quiet like a spanked chihuahua or politely respectfully ask for some courtesy from the officer in defense of his wife?
in the zeal of stupidity in the comments here nobody ever addresses that.
she did nothing wrong she most probably resigned to protect her assistant chief pension which she began receiving in 2019.
in a crime ridden Nation this is what we should worry and concentrate our efforts on? hey otherwise respected please Chief and her spouse 40 m off the golf course in a golf cart without a license plate.? really?
my hope for her (O'Connor) and her husband is a month from now she's in the dominican republic on a golf course in a golf cart doing whatever they want anytime they want with her without the "famed" license plate on or not.
as a city of Tampa will waste 300k/400k of taxpayer money to find the newest chief that will not go rogue on a golf cart with their spouse.
That was quick.
Nice!
Mayor Jane Castor this is disappointing to you. Why aren't the bicycle tickets you placed on black citizens excessively not a disappointing action performed by you while a chief of police. It seems you have no integrity or character either.
Got emmmm
There was no need for her to resign. People now days are so sensitive. So what, the cop could have given her a ticket , but he didn't. He should be resigning. Social media destroys peoples lives. I miss the 90's
Why did she resigned? She should have taken the reprimand.
How in the world did that woman ever become the chief of police when it is so obvious she thinks it's all a big joke and has probably done some really dirty deals .
Hopefully the feds will take a good look into any stories or complaints about her because I'll bet you they're all true
It could’ve been a 50$ ticket, the cheapness, greediness & arrogance of this woman is unbelievable
😂🤣😂🤣😂 how did you lose your top cop position? 🤣😂🤣😂😂 I was in a good cart
how is it not the cops fault and only the chiefs? He was well within his rights to tell her to f herself. hes just as culpable.
Drunken cops, and you know it, fire them.
Fire the spineless officer who cut her a break.
Fire the spineless officer who cut her a break.
And he did wrong he shouldn't tell had a ticket excited can you imagine if that was you or me we wouldn't move been treated that way
About time they hold cheating and crooked and using their badge for their benefit about time they hold these pigs accountable there supposed to set a higher example lead by example so if she's doing that just imagine what her up Subordinates are pulling off cause it all starts with the top and rolls down hill
Haha his wife is the embarrassment is what there saying
Her smile looks like the creepy mayor from The Nightmare Before Christmas
I have to say- it’s not the best reporting when I’m left scratching my head and wondering what this is all about. What even happened here?
I don't understand what happened to make her have to resign? What did she do? Is she not supposed to show her badge?
She should've been fired & what's really messed up she will be a police chief somewhere else. This is one reason police reform is needed.
A cop thinking they're above the law? Say it ain't so!
And to think that THESE are the types of city officials who get promoted to the highest ranks…
Don't flash it. Pretend that you drop the badge and pick it up.
waiiiengh wah wah So what she showed her badge to another cop. So what what! All because the different police dept have different political views. Making a story out of nothing
Ok first off this was a misdemeanor. The officer has complete discretion whether to issue a citation or not. I am not of the opinion that the Tampa Police chief did anything morally or criminally wrong. Had this been a serious offense I am sure such an action on the Police Chief’s part would have been something to deal with, but not this time. Over reach and a failure to put things in context is what this is about.
Lol. The Police are such great examples in society.
The law don’t apply to everyone and the scum wearing the badge are selective to whom they help and whom they violate, take action citizens do gods work and end those that violated you, gods word is power and above all governments.
She was trying to show her ID but the badge was on top😁 Sounds like a setup
The cop that pulled them over should have been fired also. He also broke standers!!!
Deputy had a lawful order to ignore her corruption. Deputy needs to be fired as well and his capt investigated
Its not just tampa police – its everywhere, law enforcement has a buddy system which undermines integrity, this just shows how its done but hats off to enforcing the law and what is right
This was no big deal. Much ado about nothing.
It's abuse of authority like this that is a big reason why we need immediate release of body cam footage (unless the law enforcement agency can convince a judge to block its release because doing so may interfere with an ongoing investigation).
"Do you know who I am?"
She had a smile like the joker when telling batman he has failed and cant stop whatever crime he has planned lol
TAMPA NEEDS A MALE POLICE CHIEF
Though I believe there are good cops out there. It's ones like these that make a bad name. Now where are the firings of politicians doing this? And yes I know it happens in both parties.
It was her mouth that got them into trouble. Take it to the judge.
I guess so much for cops having each others back, like here’s a food for thought 💭 who leaked the video to the press? Honestly I’m not sure how things are there but usually flashing of the badge is just common courtesy for the other officer to know dudes also a cop. Like I would understand if it was for an alcohol related incident or anything really illegal but literally just a tag issue?
I guess being a Karen doesn't help even being a cop.She wanted to flout her authority and it backfired on her.
Big win.
A bit drastic i think!.probably the best thing would be accept the written violation and move on!
End Qualified Immunity 🎉
