It’s not a classic cover drive with a big step in, but Smith’s are wonderful. He’s my favorite batter to watch. I love the big back lift, the step across, and the neurotic movement between balls. He’s an obsessive. You can see the madness come through in his artistry and command of his craft. You sense the sheer number of hours he has spent perfecting batting. Conversely, watching him bowl his leggies looks increasingly like village cricket.
